A hoist material handling system is invaluable in various industrial and commercial scenarios when the efficient and safe movement of heavy or bulky loads is required. Hoist lift material handlers are specifically designed for applications where other material handling solutions aren’t practical.

A hoist lift material handler (or simply a hoist) lifts, lowers, and moves heavy loads in a controlled, predetermined, and precise manner. These types of material handlers can lift incredible amounts of weight and are often used on exterior docks near transportation routes (railways, waterways, etc.) to unload/load goods.

Hoists also have interior uses, along assembly lines or for lifting and placing heavy equipment or machinery into place. Larger hoists are usually affixed to the ground or ceiling and can be moved via a control panel along a trolley system. Smaller hoist systems may be free-moving, such as a hoist that lifts an engine out of a vehicle and can then be moved out of the way.

Hoist System Material Handling

Hoist systems are essential when dealing with loads that are too heavy or cumbersome for manual handling. Depending on the size of the hoist, several tons can be lifted, moved, and placed. They offer precise control over the lifting process, allowing for accurate positioning and placement of loads.

As part of a loading/unloading track system, hoists can perform repetitive lifting tasks consistently, reducing the risk of human error. This leads to increased productivity and efficiency, which is especially important in industries where time is a critical factor. Repetitious routes also improve safety on the work floor.

There is a lifting mechanism powered by an electric motor, air compressor, or hydraulic system that generates the force required to raise the load. Motorized hoists are equipped with controls that allow the operator to manage the lifting process, either from a control panel or remotely. Manual hoists require a worker to pull a chain attached to several pulleys or a lever.

Cranes are a version of hoist material handlers. For example, a gantry crane combines a hoist mechanism with a bridge structure, providing horizontal and vertical movement and are often used for heavy-duty lifting in manufacturing, construction, and shipping yards. Jib cranes are smaller, versatile cranes that use a hoist for lifting loads within a limited radius.

Finding the Right Hoist System for Your Facility

If you are looking for ways to upgrade your lifting capabilities, or outfitting a brand new facility with integrated hoist material handling, conveyor systems, and other production equipment? Since 1966, Storee Construction has been working with large-scale plants and structures to improve the way they work.

We’ll conduct an audit of your industrial facility and look for ways your processes can be improved. We will schedule our work around your operating hours as much as possible to keep downtime to a minimum. In addition to production upgrades, we also perform new construction, additions, industrial HVAC and electrical, equipment movement, and safety audits.

If it happens in your facility, Storee Construction can improve, upgrade, maintain and service. Reach out to us and see how we can help the productivity of your plan all the while improving the safety of your workers.
